Blush Alaea Sea Salt is a pink salt, softly touched with the mineral-rich red volcanic clay of Hawaii known as Alaea. It has an easy crunchy texture and light earthy flavor. Used as a finishing salt, it adds a delightful pink color to dishes. Alaea Sea Salt was an accident of nature. In ancient Hawaii, on the island of what is now Kauai, red volcanic clay called Alaea “met” sea salt when, during heavy rains, the red clay sediment seeped into the ocean from Kauai’s rivers. When this red ocean water became trapped in tidal pools, evaporation created Hawaiian Red Alaea Sea Salt. Blush Alaea Sea Salt uses less of the clay to soften the flavor and color.
While much of the salt was used by ancient Hawaiians in sacred rituals in which security was sought for everything from canoes to homes and temples, the salt was also used to preserve food.
We love its color for accent and its flavor on all meats, vegetables, and salad, but particularly on seafood and pork.

I have purchased this salt in the past and has always been that lovely coral color that it appears in the pictures. This last batch is the color of Himalayan or Murray River salt. It's pink, not blush. I have pink, I was looking for the lovely blush that looks so pretty on all kinds of paler foods like fish, chicken, eggs, light greens. It would be nice if the picture of the salt was actually the salt you are going to get. Not so in this case.
