Jewel of the Ocean Sea Salt

Uni no Houseki, Jewel of the Ocean Sea Salt, is aptly named for its gem-like appearance and utmost quality. Harvested on a small island, Aoi Shima or Blue island, far away from the main island of Japan, surface seawater is combined with deep seawater in order to obtain a rich balance of minerals. This combination of seawaters is concentrated through evaporation by exposure to sun and wind, then finished inside solar green houses in special ceramic vessels hand-produced by the salt farmers themselves.

Due to its intense quality management and limited production, Jewel of the Ocean Sea Salt is almost never found on the market. As a result, it is sometimes referred to as maboroshi no shio or “visionary salt.”
