Our newest sugar blend, Toasted Anise Spice Sugar, is full of rich, aromatic spices. As with all our inventive sugars, we start with Hawaiian cane sugar. Hawaiian cane adds a delightful crunch and a hint of molasses. Then we add anise with its licorice-like flavor and a touch of cardamom to round out the strong, lingering, and warm blend. Anise is a favorite spice in many cuisines; its pungent flavor the star in many cookies such as pizzelle, as well as candies and liqueurs.
We love Toasted Anise Spice Sugar on sugar cookies or with apples baked into a crisp or pie. Try with other winter fruits; figs or apricots are perfect. For a savory dish, add a spoonful of the sugar blend to meat sauce (especially one with pork) for pasta or gnocchi. Add to hot chocolate, mulled cider or red wine and don’t forget your morning coffee. Flavor a Rum cocktail or sprinkle a touch on after dinner drinks.
